Microsoft has recently violated an XML patent that was held by Toronto company i4i. However, this particular violation could end up being very costly for the Redmond based company.
Microsoft has been ordered to halt shipments of Microsoft Word – the software using the patent. This is reportedly costing Microsoft over $100,000 per day. They will continue to lose money until their appeal date, which has been set for the 23rd of September, but Microsoft had been pushing for an earlier date to help curb the losses.
